Steering Wheel Clock Spring (Spiral Cable) ?

This spiral cable links the steering wheel to the car’s electronics, keeping power and signals flowing while you turn. It carries the airbag trigger, horn, audio/cruise buttons, and often the steering angle sensor feed. A healthy unit means safe airbags, responsive controls, and no warning lights.

Why you need it

Daily steering flexes the ribbon inside. Over time, the tracks can crack or lose contact. Replacing a worn unit restores reliable horn, buttons, and SRS function, preventing faults and inspection failures.

How it works

A flat ribbon cable coils inside a drum. As you steer, it winds and unwinds within a set turn count, keeping constant electrical continuity. Correct centering is vital so the ribbon never over-stretches.

When it fails ⚠️

Airbag light on (SRS fault),horn inoperative, dead wheel buttons, intermittent audio/cruise, steering angle sensor codes, or a clicking sound inside the wheel. Driving can continue, but safety systems may be disabled.

Install tips

Disconnect battery (10–15 min),center wheels, lock the hub, transfer any angle sensor, align marks, torque to spec, then calibrate steering angle with a scan tool if required.
