Automatic Transmission Gear Selector Range Sensor ⚙️

Why this part is needed

This sensor, often called a neutral safety/gear range switch, keeps your ride safe and smart. It allows the engine to start only in Park or Neutral ️, tells the TCM/ECM which gear is selected, and triggers reverse lights. Without it working, starting, shifting, and safety systems can go out of sync.

How it works

Mounted on the transmission selector shaft, the unit tracks lever position via an internal cam and contacts (or Hall elements). It sends clean signals to the control module and the starter interlock. When you choose R, it powers the reverse lamp circuit; when you select P/N, it enables the starter. Proper alignment is key—after installation, the switch must be indexed so the PRND display matches the lever.

What happens if it fails ❗

Common symptoms: no-crank in Park, starts only in Neutral, wrong PRND display, harsh or refused shifts, stuck-in-limp mode, inoperative reverse lights, intermittent stalling at selection, and codes like P0705/P0850. Corrosion, water ingress, or worn contacts cause most faults. Replace promptly to protect the transmission and restore safe starts.
