Steering Wheel Spiral Contact Cable ⚙️

This part is a flexible electrical link fitted inside the steering column. It is needed to keep power and signal connection between the steering wheel controls and the vehicle wiring while the wheel turns left and right. On Lexus models, it commonly supports the horn, driver airbag circuit, audio buttons, cruise control, paddle functions, and other steering-mounted switches.

How It Works ?

Inside the housing is a flat ribbon wire wound in a spiral shape. When the steering wheel rotates, the ribbon carefully winds and unwinds, allowing smooth movement without twisting or breaking the wires. Correct centering during installation is very important, because over-rotation can damage the internal ribbon.

Signs of a Faulty Unit ⚠️

If this steering contact cable fails, the airbag warning light may stay on, horn may stop working, or steering wheel buttons may respond only sometimes. In severe cases, the SRS system may not communicate correctly, which can affect airbag safety. A clicking noise from the steering column or loss of multiple steering functions usually means the internal ribbon is worn, torn, or off-center.
