Engine Knock Sensor for Toyota — precise detonation control
This detonation detector keeps your Toyota’s engine safe and smooth. It listens for knock (ping) and lets the ECU fine‑tune ignition timing for power, economy, and longevity. Perfect for restoring factory performance, stopping rattling under load, and clearing check‑engine lights related to knock sensing.
Why you need it ⚙️
Modern engines run close to the limit for best fuel burn. The sensor protects the engine by warning the ECU when combustion turns harsh. Without it, your car can lose power, drink more fuel, and risk damage.
How it works
Inside is a piezoelectric element bolted to the block. When knock vibration hits a certain frequency, the element generates a voltage. The ECU reads this signal and retards timing only on the knocking cylinder range, then advances back when safe. Result: quiet, efficient power in all conditions.
What happens if it’s broken ⚠️
- Check Engine light, codes like P0325–P0330
- Sluggish acceleration, poor fuel economy
- Audible pinging under load; in severe cases, piston or bearing damage
- ECU may lock timing conservative, making the car feel flat
Tech tips for install
Mount on clean metal, use correct torque (do not overtighten),route harness away from heat, no sealant between sensor and block, clear codes and road‑test under load.
