Steering Sector Shaft Seal for Mitsubishi 4x4/Truck Steering Box

This seal protects the steering gear by keeping lubricant inside and road grit, water, and dust outside. It sits where the sector (pitman) shaft exits the steering box. Without a tight seal, the box loses oil, internal parts run dry, and steering precision fades. Choose this part to stop leaks, stabilize steering feel, and extend steering box life.

How it works ⚙️

A reinforced rubber lip with a spring (garter) hugs the sector shaft. The metal-cased body press-fits in the housing. As you steer, the lips track the shaft, holding pressure oil/grease in and contaminants out. A dual-lip profile handles splash, dust, and shaft micro-movement, while low-friction edges reduce wear.

When it fails

Oil dripping near the pitman arm, a wet steering box, play on center, heavy or sticky steering, and whining noises are typical. Running low on lube leads to worm/sector wear, rust pitting, and eventual loss of steering accuracy—potentially an MOT/inspection fail and a safety risk.

Tech notes

Replace at first sign of seepage. Lightly polish the shaft, oil the lips, install squarely with a driver, and torque the pitman arm correctly. Afterward, refill to spec and recheck free play.
